Initially after reading the blurb I thought this was going to be too much like The Hunger Games, but I quickly realised that this is nothing like The Hunger Games at all.

I love books and movies about people trapped in places and they have to work out why they're there, and how to get out, like in Lost. *Thank you to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt via Edelweiss+ for providing me with a digital review copy! Overall an engaging read that is also very thought provoking! I think for a YA this is certainly done well enough.
While I wish the character development had gone deeper in respect to the relationships they developed with each other. This book includes complicated material from a scientific level, it would be easy to get distracted and let the completion of the story get away from you. The author did a great job of putting together a complete story. Like, "Woah, where the heck did that come from, it scared me but I dig it!" However, things finally started going somewhere in the second section. There is a slow down for me in the second half of the first section (three sections in total). The beginning starts off nicely as we get to know the characters. This was a well thought out and intelligent story. They will all struggle and fight for their lives before they find out the truth. Almost as if they are the only ones left in the world. It appears no one is coming for them, all alone in the wilderness. Most alarming, the final contestants find out that the GPS beacons do not work.
Whenever a player decides to quit the game or becomes injured they have a GPS beacon they activate so they can be found by the show and taken to shelter and safety. Once contestants are narrowed down to the last few remaining the game seems to take a drastic turn. The contestant who can last in the wilderness the longest wins.

The story is about a group of young adults filming a wilderness survival reality TV show. I can however, say it definitely is Dead Spots (a horror novel by Rhiannon Frater about people's greatest fears) meets Lost. Having not read Warcross as of the time of this review I cannot say. The synopsis describes it as Warcross meets Lost. But what happens when “tapping out” doesn’t work and no one comes to save you? What happens when the whole world seemingly disappears while you’re stranded in the wild? Four teenagers must confront their greatest fears, their deepest secrets, and one another when they discover they are truly cut off from reality.

Not only that, new software creates a totally unprecedented television experience, allowing viewers to touch, see, and live everything along with the contestants. It’s a simple premise: whoever lasts the longest without “tapping out” wins a cash prize. When something goes horribly wrong and the contestants realize no one is coming to save them, they must question their very reality-and how much of the game is really for show.Įach contestant has their own reasons-and their own secrets-for joining the new virtual reality show CUT/OFF that places a group of teenagers alone in the wilderness.
Teens compete to survive in the wilderness for one million dollars on a new virtual reality show.
